What Can You Do With Digital Photographs

Introduction

Digital photography has certainly come a long way in a short space of time, if you consider that the first consumer digital cameras weren`t introduced until the mid-1990s. Nowadays, digital cameras are everywhere, and digital photography is faster, easier and more enjoyable than traditional film photography. Photographers, even beginners, need not worry about wasting film, or expensive development costs, because there is no film, and development, if required, is limited only to the photographs that you really want. You can see your results, immediately, delete those that you don`t want, and transfer those that you do to a computer, for editing, or sharing, via email, or the World Wide Web.

Digital Cameras & Digital Photographs

A straightforward, easy to use, digital camera typically costs between £60 and £125, and provides sufficient "resolution" - the number of picture elements, or "pixels", in each image - for, at least, good 6" x 4" photographic prints, if that`s what you want. Generally speaking, a minimum of 200ppi, or "pixels per inch", is required - horizontally, and vertically - to produce a satisfactory print, so a resolution of 1,200 x 800 pixels, or 960,000, in total, is required for a print of this size.

It may well be, of course, that photographic prints are not what you want, and there are plenty of other options available, to suit even the most creative mind. As a first - and precautionary, rather than creative - step, you might like to back up your photographs to some kind of removable media, such as a CD, DVD, or USB stick. This not only free up space on your computer`s hard disk, if you need it, but also means that your precious snapshots will not be lost, in the event of a system failure.

You might also like to try a community photo album, or scrapbook, online, and many free or subscription services exist. A "photobook" is similar to a traditional photograph album, but photographs are printed directly on the pages, or you might like to "rasterize" your images, so that they can be printed, and assembled into posters.

Other possibilities include incorporating your digital photographs into key rings, greetings cards, stationery, or calendars, domestic items - such as cushions, mugs, and fridge magnets - or clothing. A wide range of "photo fashion" items - t-shirts, caps, handbags, even babies` bibs - is available from any number of companies, both online, and on the high street. These, and any other, companies involved in digital photography can be located, fairly easily, in photography & video classifieds.
